Historically photographs have been produced using an enormously varied set of production processes, resulting in photographic objects that may look similar but vary drastically in their essential nature.
To properly care for such heritage artifacts necessitates being able to correctly identify the true nature of a photograph and how it was produced. These judgements inform the proper storage, handling, long-term care and even interventive treatments for historic photographs.
This course works through essential foundational material, and then examines from both theoretical and practical standpoints the science of photographic identification.
If you have any feedback on your experience here, or if we can help you with any questions, we’d love to hear about it!
